Men Are Such Fools

Priscilla Lane and Bogie flirt it up poolside.
Busby Berkely directed romantic comedy/drama about a career minded young woman (Priscilla Lane as Linda) who falls in love and marries but struggles to balance her passion for her career with her love for her husband (Wayne Morris as Jimmy).

If the director and cast is anything to go buy this should have been a fantastic film, but sadly the script is quite poor with weakly written characters and inexplicable plot developments, and despite the occasional fun moments for the most part Men Are Such Fools is a slow moving and boring film.

The primary supporting cast includes the delightful Penny Singleton as Linda's sweet and ditsy best friend, the popular comedian Hugh Herbert as Linda's loveable oddball boss and Mona Barrie as Linda's dry witted senior colleague.
Bogie's role in this is that of the caddish business executive who tries his best to break up the young couple's union. He does not appear until nearly 30 minutes into the film and recieved third billing after Morris and Lane.

Other performances of note are Johnnie Davis as Tad (boyfriend to Penny Singleton's character), Marcia Ralston as Wanda (Bogie's character's jealous ex fiance) and Donald Briggs as the frustrated senior colleague with a flame for Linda. Overall the cast works well with what they are given, but the script undermines their efforts.
Shot in Black & White. 1.33:1 Aspect Ratio.

Not released on home video but can be seen on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) as of the time of writing this review.
