The Harder They Fall

Bogart as Eddie Willis with Mike Lane as Toro Moreno
The Harder They Fall was Bogie's final film, and in a return to his noir roots, it explores the dark side of professional boxing. Organized crime, fixed matches, used up and brain damaged boxers living penniless on the streets, these are the realities of the world in which The Harder They Fall is set.

Bogie plays a cynical and world weary sportswriter (Eddie Willis), who, recently out of work, and desperate for money, is offered the chance to become the publicist for a new boxing 'contender.' The fighter's manager (brilliantly played by Rod Steiger) is corrupt, and Eddie knows this, but he needs the cash...
Eddie takes the sweet natured and slow witted contender Toro Moreno (played by Mike Lane) under his wing, but the fixed fights and corruption begin to take there toll both emotionally and physically on both Eddie and Toro, and Eddie finds himself at odds with his corrupt and dangerous employers.

Two former World Heavyweight champions (Max Baer and Jersey Joe Walcott) add a sense of reality and authenticity to the film, Baer playing the film's Heavyweight champion, and Walcott playing Toro's trainer.

Shot in Black & White.

The DVD features the film in it's original 1.85 to 1 aspect ratio, and is Anamorphically Enhanced for widescreen TV's.
